“On behalf of His Excellency the Prime Minister, I officially declare the Water and Sanitation Support Project (PASEA) launched. Long live international cooperation and long live Côte d’Ivoire!” It was with these traditional words that Mr. Bouaké Fofana, Minister of Water, Sanitation and Public Health, representing Prime Minister His Excellency Robert Beugré Mambé, symbolically launched the work within the framework of PASEA. This took place in Independence Square in Korhogo, in the presence of Mr. Laurent Tchagba, Minister of Water and Forests, Ms. Marie-Chantal Uwanyiligira, Director of Operations for the World Bank, as well as numerous officials and representatives of the local population.
Bouaké Fofana stated that “PASEA is a strong declaration of the ambition of the President of the Republic, His Excellency [name missing].” Alassane Ouattara aims to build an Ivory Coast where drinking water and sanitation are no longer a privilege, but a fundamental right. With a total budget of US$1.2 billion (700 billion CFA francs), a significant portion of which (US$825 million, or 500 billion CFA francs) is financed by the World Bank, the PASEA program, in its first phase, focuses on the regions of Bagoué, Bounkani, Folon, Kabadougou, Poro, Tchologo, Bafing, Béré, Gontougo, Hambol, and Worodougou. Subsequent phases may be extended depending on water stress or deficits, or the urgency of the needs.
