A drain, or gutter, made of rigid metal plates and grates, is placed along the curb to collect and absorb rainwater runoff from the roadway. It is generally located at the lowest point of the road. However, when the roadway has a steep longitudinal slope, the drain is positioned at the waterline with a slight offset to improve water collection. It is rectangular or square in shape.
